FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

UNITED WAY OF WACO-MCLENNAN COUNTY SEEKS LOCAL ARTIST SUBMISSIONS FOR AN INTERACTIVE ARTWORK TO DISPLAY MCLENNAN COUNTY STORIES FOR THEIR 100TH ANNIVERSARY

Waco, Texas, July 6, 2023 – United Way of Waco-McLennan County commemorates its 100th Anniversary by commissioning a local visual artist to design and create a custom artwork highlighting our 100 years of impact in the Waco-McLennan County community.

Local artists are encouraged to participate in the open call process, which allows for conversation and collaboration. United Way aims to work with an artist with a bold vibe, a love for our community, and a willingness to share their process and design for extensive use. This is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to make your mark on the giving history of our community.

“United Way of Waco-McLennan County has a long history of service in our community and we want to create an interactive piece which shows some of that history and amazing stories from our community over the past 100 years. We are excited to see the different creative visions this project will yield,” said Wendy Ellis, Chief Executive Officer of United Way of Waco-McLennan County, “We are inspired by the countless stories of positive impact that we have seen as a result of our donors and the vital programs we fund. Each story is important and reminds us why we do what we do. As we reflect on 100 years of history with this project, we also want to turn the page into the next 100 years of possibility. The future of McLennan County lies in the stories of today that we hear from our children, families, and communities.”

We are issuing an open call for artist submissions due July 21, 2023. Up to 7 designers will be invited to submit design proposals due August 15, 2023. Each selected designer will receive a $75 honorarium and will be invited to further develop their designs to then be presented to a special selection committee. A design will be selected prior to September 15, 2023 and work is expected to be completed by October 15, 2023. The selected artist will be offered a $2000 contract for their work. The Design Brief can be found on our website. We are partnering with Creative Waco to support logistics throughout this process.
