PREEMIE Reauthorization Act of 2018 & Preventing Maternal Deaths Act
The House of Representatives passed the PREEMIE Reauthorization Act of 2018 to prevent and treat preterm birth. It’s an important step in reversing the rising trend of prematurity and addressing a national health crisis that affects far too many families. This new law will protect more moms and babies and will include a renewal of research programs and the reauthorization of the Health Resources and Services Administration’s activities aimed at promoting healthy pregnancies and preventing premature birth.
The Preventing Maternal Deaths Act passed in the U.S. House of Representatives in December 2018. This bill will provide much-needed funding to states and tribes to establish and improve maternal mortality review committees. These committees include local experts on maternal, infant and public health who investigate cases of maternal death and develop recommendations to prevent them. Next up, this bill will go to the Senate.
